Libratory Reader for iPhone

Libratory Reader collects no data. You do not need an account. The app connects to the internet for one thing: the shelves described below, which list books and let you download them.

Your books stay on your phone

Books you add are copied into the app. Their pages, audio, and covers are never sent anywhere.

Your reading place, listening history, saved passages, notes, and groups stay on your phone, too.

Shelves

A shelf is a list of books on a computer running the Libratory desktop app. You add one by scanning a code on that computer's Phone page; the app also lists a public shelf of free books, run by Libratory. Each request to a shelf asks for its list of books or downloads one book.

When you add a shelf, the app sends it the name you give your phone, and the shelf answers with a key for that phone. Every request after that carries the key, the app's version, the iOS version and the phone model. It carries nothing about you, no account, and no identifier that lasts beyond the key. The key is for that shelf only and lives in your phone's keychain. The public shelf issues no key and learns no name; its requests carry only the app's version, the iOS version and the phone model.

The owner of a shelf you added sees your phone's name, when it listed or downloaded, and which files it downloaded, and can forget your phone at any time. A shelf you added records only that a paired device downloaded a file, by the device name its owner chose.

The public shelf has no owner page and no paired devices. When a book is downloaded from it, it records which file, the time, the app's user-agent string (the app's version and your iOS version and phone model, cut to 200 characters), and a two-letter country code when the server in front of it supplies one. It never records an address, an account, or a device identifier. These records are read as counts, to see what to add next.

Your reading place, listening history, saved passages, and notes are never sent to a shelf. What you downloaded stays in your library if you remove the shelf.

No tracking

The app has no usage tracking, crash reporting, advertising IDs, or third-party software kits. Beyond the shelf requests above, nothing shows when you use it.

You choose what to share

Tap Share to send the original book file to an app or folder you choose. This does not include your reading place, saved passages, or notes. The app you send it to has its own privacy policy.

You can also export your saved passages as plain text to a place you choose.

Children

The app collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Delete your data

Deleting the app removes its books, reading places, saved passages, notes, and the keys of any shelves. No copy exists elsewhere. A shelf you added keeps your phone's name until its owner forgets it; the public shelf has no name for your phone and keeps no record that can be traced to it.

Changes

Shelves were added to this page on 11 October 2026, before the version that has them was released. If a future version sends anything more, this page will be updated before it is released.
